ABOUT THE AUTHOR

My name is Christine Smith and I am an Elementary Education major  at Grand View University in Des Moines, Iowa. I created this website on cyberbullying as part of an assignment for my Instructional Technologies course. The purpose of the site is to inform others about the topic of cyberbullying.

Gathering information for my topic had its challenges. Cyberbullying has been around for many years but as a society we are now really beginning to see the dangerous effects it has on our young people. This made finding credible sources difficult. In the library at Grand View for example I was only able to find two books dedicated to the topic but luckily they had access to scholarly articles from around the world about the topic.

To ensure that my website sources were accurate and trustworthy I read the information and the about the author sections thoroughly. I also found links through trusted government websites and organizations.

I learned a great deal about cyberbullying while designing and researching information for my website. I learned that cyberbullying can be worse than face-to-face bullying because you can't escape it. I also learned that as a soon to be educator I can help educate my students about proper  (N)ethics (net ethics) and about digital literacy so that they can help prevent cyberbullying from happening to their peers.

I found that using WIX to create this site was easy and fun. The biggest problem I ran into was sorting through all the information and trying to create a website that wasn't too wordy but still had enough information to educate the reader about my topic. Another problem was finding images through Creative Commons that I could use that were relevant to my topic.

In conclusion, while creating this website had its challenges my overall experience was good. I learned about a topic that will affect me as a teacher and I learned how to use different sources and technologies that will be useful as I continue into the field of education.
